Introduction of The Future of Database Management in the Era of Big Data and Cloud Computing in Nigeria.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Database is the set of related data and the system it is organized. The database management system” (DBMS) consist of an integrated set of computer software which facilitate the use and the ย access to datas contained in the database and to interface with different databases even though ย certain limitations may exist. The DBMS is a system which facilitate the entry, storage and retrieval of large amount of data as well as the management and organization of data. The advent of big data is as result of the generation of large volume of data.ย Bachman, Charles W.ย (1973).ย According to the ย Journal of Science 2008, โ€œBig Data depicts the advancement ย of human cognitive processes, consisting of ย large data sets which cannot be processedย  by the ability of current technology, Gartner views ย it asย  large volume,ย  high-velocity,ย  and large variety information ย assets ย which need ย ย newย  formsย  ofย  processing ย for enhancedย  decisionย  making,ย  insightย  discoveryย  andย  process optimization.

The concept of Cloud Computing proffers a type of computing which deliver services through the Internet or network of servers. The objective of Cloud Computing is to utilize computing power to carry out a large pool of instruction per second.ย  Cloud Computingย  utilizes networksย  ofย  a largeย  groupย  of serversย  with ย specializedย  connections toย  disseminate processed dataย  ย among ย theย  servers.ย  The use of cloud computing technologies, enables the installation of ย ย aย  singleย  softwareย  inย  aย  computerย  which ย is the host computer and users can log into a web-based service ย that host all the programs to accessed it. The study seeks to appraise the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria.

The processing of large volume of data has exacted numerous challenges.

Theseย  Cloudย  computingย  technology ย poses a lot of ย securityย  issues ย due to the fact that itย ย  involves numerousย  technologies which include networks, ย databases,ย  operatingย  systems,ย  virtualization,ย  resource ย allocation,ย  containerization, resourceย  scheduling,ย  transaction management, load balancing, concurrency control, managing ย contents distribution in a content delivery network (CDN) and ย memory management. ย The problem confronting the study is to appraise the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria.

OBJECTIVEย ย  OF THE STUDY

The Main Objective of the study is to appraise the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria; The specific objectives include

1 To determine the nature of database management, big data and cloud computing.

2 To determine the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria.

ย DEFINITION OF TERMS

CLOUD COMPUTING DEFINED

Cloud Computing proffers a type of computing which deliver services through the Internet or network of servers. The objective of Cloud Computing is to utilize computing power to carry out a large pool of instruction per second.ย  Cloud Computingย  utilizes networksย  ofย  a largeย  groupย  of serversย  withย  specializedย  connections toย  disseminate processed dataย  ย amongย  theย  servers.ย  The use of cloud computing technologies, enables the installation of ย ย aย  singleย  softwareย  inย  aย  computerย  which ย is the host computer and users can log into a web-based service ย that host all the programs to accessed it.

DATA BASE MANAGEMENT DEFINED

The database management system” (DBMS) consist of an integrated set of computer software which facilitate the use and theย  access to datas contained in the database and to interface with different databases even though ย certain limitations may exist that limit access to particular data. The DBMS is a system which facilitate the entry, storage and retrieval of large amount of data as well as the management and organization of data.

PROCUREMENT DEFINED

Procurement is defined as the process of searching, finding, agreeing to terms, and buyingย ย  goods, services, or works from an external source, through the process of tendering or competitiveย biddingย process.

BIG DATA DEFINED

Big Data depicts the advancementย  of human cognitive processes, consisting ofย  large data sets which cannot be processedย  by the ability of current technology, Gartner viewsย  it asย  large volume,ย  high-velocity,ย  and large variety informationย  assetsย  which needย ย  newย  formsย  ofย  processingย  for enhancedย  decisionย  making,ย  insightย  discoveryย  andย  process optimization.
