Chapterย One Of Recycling Potentials of Waste From Industries Iin Nigeria
ย INTRODUCTION
Industrial wastes are the wastes produced by industrial activity which includes any materials that is rendered useless during a manufacturing process such as that of factories, mills and mining, operations. It is also a solid, semi-solid, liquid or gaseous unwanted or residual materials (not including hazardous or biodegradable wastes), from an industrial operation.
Since the industrial revolution, industrial and mining operations have been accompanied by a problem; industrial wastes which may be toxic, ignitable, corrosive or reactive. If improperly managed, these wastes can pose dangerous health and environmental consequences. These wastes are general at every stage in the production process use and disposal of manufactured products. Thus, the introduction of many new products for the home and office-computers, drugs, textiles, paints and dyes, plastics also introduced hazardous waste, including toxic chemicals, into the environment.
Nearly every industrial process, from manufacturing consumer goods to generating. Energy produces different types of byproducts, many of which are usable materials. Similar to municipal solid wastes, such as carbon and newspapers, and beverages containers these industrial materials are also valuable. Conditions that can be recycled.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
Advertisements
The main aim of the study is to determine the Recycling potential of waste using the industry solid waste as a case study and environmental cleanliness, free of garbage (refuse).
Objectives of the study
- To find out how wastes are generated by the industries.
- To find out the composition of waste in industries.
- To compare between waste generation and composition in industries.
- To find out how wastes are collected and disposed in the industries.
- To know the method of waste disposal in the industries.
- To know how waste is being managed in the industries.
- To ascertain recycling potentials at the various wastes.
ย LIMITATION AND CONSTRAINTS
The limitation of the study is limited to manufacturing and processing industrial and the constraints is the communication with the industries used as the case study when collecting their recycling potential of generated wastes as well as time.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study is limited to the recycling potential of wastes of industries. This study will focus more on the methods of generations, collection and recycling of the wastes industries.
METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY
The methods of collecting the recycling potential of wastes of these industries will be available by collecting first hand information and communication of their waste generation, waste composition, waste collection and disposal and low the wastes can be recycled without causing, side effects to the environment.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Broadly, industrial waste can be classified into the following heads.
- Chemical waste:ย This type of industrial waste is generated from different factories, plants and processing centres. Comprising of different chemicals and their residues, these need to be disposed off in a careful manner. Generally, this type of waste is governed by different environmental organization and government groups.
- Industrial solid waste:ย This waste type constitutes various types of packaging material, disordered carbon and boxes and other related things. Ideally, these materials can be recycled to make various alternate thing. However, there generally reach the land fill as they get mixed with other types of industrial waste.
- Toxic waste:ย This waste type basically comprises of different types of materials that can cause death or birth defects in living beings. Apart from this, it can also contaminate to rivers, lakes and other waste bodies.
