BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Cartoons are those simple drawings in a newspaper or magazine showing the features of its subjects in a humorously exaggerated way, especially a satirical one. A cartoon shows a typical illustration, oftened animated, in a non-realistic or semi-realistic style. It is an image or series of images displayed in form of a satire, caricature, or humor; or a motion picture use for illustrations. A cartoon is a humorous illustration in magazines and newspapers. In print media, a cartoon is a display of humorous illustration or series of illustrations, in intent. The use of cartoons in newspaper and magazines has been a point of creating humour among readers which has served as a source of attraction and a means of increasing sales. The youths has always been the target for the use of cartoons in newspapers and magazines since they constitute the segment of readers which can easily be drawn to cartoons. Cartoon serve as a means for entertaining and creating fun concerning appealing issues among readers. Cartoons are often applied in situation where the reporters and feature writers are afraid of writing. Cartoons have over the years being a significant feature of newspaper and magazine content in Nigeria. Consequently, study seeks to appraise the influence of cartoon on newspaper readership among student; A case study of university of Lagos Akoka.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The use of cartoon has constituted an essential part of regular features of newspapers and magazines. Many newspapers and magazines publish weekly has segments which feature various cartoons and comic strips covering issues on social, political and economic affairs of the country and also used as illustrations of some editorial matter. Consequently, many newspapers and magazines have gained popularity as a result of regular features of newspapers and magazines. Therefore, the problem confronting the study is to appraise the influence of cartoon on newspaper readership among student; A case study of university of Lagos Akoka.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The Main Objective of the research is to proffer an appraisal on the influence of cartoon on newspaper readership among student; A case study of university of Lagos Akoka; The specific objectives include
